Porticello's owner Mario Sanfilippo moved to the United States from the town of Porticello in Sicily. He met our head chef Carmine Federico (who was raised in Abruzzo) in 1978 as soccer teammates in Boston. They continued to play together on the University of North Carolina at Greensboro's team. In 1998 They worked to open a North End style restaurant on the South Shore. After nearly ten years of success in Massachusetts, Mario and Carmine have opened a second Porticello location in Greensboro north Carolina.
